Colocasia Shadow

Colocasia Shadow is one of the more visually inconsistent Colocasia around, and that inconsistency is the whole point: a hot pink, star-shaped burst of veins radiating from a central point on every leaf, set against a base colour that ranges from green to near-black to a powdery, muted violet depending on the individual leaf.
One Pattern, a Wide Range of Colours
Across this plant's six real photos, the radiating pink star pattern never changes structurally, it always emanates from one central point on the leaf. What changes dramatically is the base colour surrounding it: solid green, near-black with a magenta centre, dusty violet-grey, and a pale, almost lavender wash all appear on leaves represented here as the same plant. Buying this cutting means buying into that range, not one fixed look.
A Powdery Bloom That Mutes the Colour on Some Leaves
Several of the leaves photographed carry a visible waxy, matte bloom, a powdery-looking coating similar to what you'd see on a fresh plum or grape, that mutes and softens the underlying colour into a dusty, shadowed cast rather than a glossy, saturated one. Other leaves on the same plant show no bloom at all and read glossy and saturated instead, one more layer of the variability this cultivar shows leaf to leaf.
A Trade Name Without a Fixed Look to Match
"Shadow" is a collector-market trade name with no documented breeder or registered origin behind it, and given how much this plant's own appearance shifts leaf to leaf, that's not entirely surprising; a name this general suits a plant that doesn't commit to one look. What's verified is the species: Colocasia esculenta, the same taro grown across tropical Asia and the Pacific, selected here for the radiating pink pattern rather than any one fixed colour.
Light Pushes the Colour Toward Black; Shade Keeps It Greener
Brighter light tends to push new leaves toward the darker, near-black end of this plant's range, while lower light keeps them greener, based on the spread visible across these photos. Consistent moisture, warmth, and humidity round out standard Colocasia care; nothing about this cultivar's needs is unusual beyond how much its appearance can shift.
Expect Your Own Cutting to Pick Its Own Shade
This cutting ships with bulb and petiole intact, leaves removed for transit and the bulb wrapped in moist sphagnum moss, rather than as the full leafed plant shown in these photos. Given the range shown here, it's honest to say you won't know exactly which shade your own plant will settle into until it's established and producing its own leaves.
Add Colocasia Shadow to your collection if you want a plant that keeps producing a genuinely different leaf rather than repeating one fixed look, grown and shipped from ThaiFusion Botanica in Thailand.

Our photos are representative examples of the plants we offer. You will receive a healthy plant of similar size and quality unless the product description clearly states that the listing is for the exact plant shown.
For selected products, actual photos of the individual plant are provided. These listings will be clearly identified, and you will receive the exact plant pictured. The date the photos were taken will also be stated. If the photos are older, you are welcome to contact us to request updated images before purchasing.
Decorative pots and accessories shown in product photos are for display purposes only and are not included unless otherwise stated.
As our plants are living products, natural variation should be expected. Differences in size, leaf count, coloration, variegation, veining, and growth habit may occur depending on the season, age of the plant, environmental conditions, and normal biological variation. These natural differences are not considered defects and are not grounds for complaints, returns, or refunds.
All sales are final once plants have been shipped. Refunds or replacements for plants that arrive dead on arrival (DOA) are available only when the conditions outlined in our Returns, Refunds & Replacement Policy have been met. Please refer to that policy for full details.

Plant Care
-
Light
Colocasias thrive in bright light and can tolerate several hours of direct morning or late afternoon sun. In cooler climates, full sun encourages vigorous growth and larger leaves, while in hotter regions, light afternoon shade helps prevent leaf scorch. For light colored variegation varieties, they thrive in partial shade and harsh direct sunlight may burn the leaves.
-
Temperature
Ideal temperatures range from 20–32°C (68–90°F). Growth slows significantly below 15°C (59°F), and frost can damage or kill the foliage. In cooler climates, tubers can be lifted and stored over winter.
-
Water
Colocasias are moisture-loving plants that perform best in consistently damp soil. Unlike many aroids, they tolerate wet conditions exceptionally well and can even be grown in shallow water or along pond edges. Never allow the potting mix to dry out completely during the growing season.
-
Humidity
Although Colocasias appreciate high humidity, they are more adaptable than many tropical plants. A humidity level of 50–80% encourages lush, healthy foliage, but established plants generally tolerate average household humidity.
-
Potting Mix
Use a rich, moisture-retentive yet well-aerated potting mix. A blend containing coco coir or peat moss, compost, perlite, and pine bark provides excellent drainage while retaining the moisture Colocasias prefer. Ensure that your coco based products are free from tannin.
-
Fertilizer
Colocasias are heavy feeders during active growth. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks, or use slow-release 16-16-16 Osmocote according to the manufacturer's instructions to support continuous production of large, vibrant leaves.
