Every leaf on Colocasia Nirmala carries the same basic pattern: a dark green to near-black blade, veins branching out from the base in a ribbed network toward an arrow-shaped tip. What changes is the color filling those veins. On one leaf it runs pale cream through the ribs, on the next it shifts to a deep magenta, and the plant seems to carry both expressions at once rather than settling on a single look. Leaves reach a substantial size too, comfortably spanning a spread hand, which gives the whole plant real weight in a garden bed rather than staying a small accent piece.

The Draw For Growers

Where This Comes From

Living With It

Give it bright light to full sun; stronger light tends to intensify the vein colors rather than wash them out. It's a marsh species at heart, so keep the soil consistently moist to boggy rather than letting it dry between waterings, more forgiving of a heavy hand with the watering can than most houseplants. Warm temperatures suit it best, and a cool spell may send it dormant for a while, which is normal corm behavior rather than a problem to fix.
