Colocasia Hawaiian Punch pairs plain, semi-glossy mid-green leaves with bright crimson-red petioles and veins radiating from the leaf's base, a colour contrast confined entirely to the stem and vein structure rather than the blade itself.
A Documented Release From Hawaii's Own Taro Breeder
Hawaiian Punch (US Plant Patent 24,596) is a 2012 release from Dr. John Cho's breeding program in Hawaii, sold under Proven Winners' Royal Hawaiian® series, the same breeding program and series behind Colocasia Black Coral. Unlike Black Coral's jet-black leaf, Hawaiian Punch keeps its blade a straightforward mid-green and puts all of its colour into the stem instead.
Red at the Stem, Not on the Blade
The defining trait here is where the red actually sits: bright crimson petioles, a small red mark at the point where each leaf meets its stem, and fine red veining running out from that point, confirmed across all four real photos. The leaf surface itself stays a consistent semi-glossy green with no variegation or dark patching, a genuinely different structure from most of the patterned or dark-leaved Colocasia already covered here.
A Compact Selection, Bred for Small Spaces
Hawaiian Punch was bred to stay compact by elephant ear standards, reaching roughly 3 feet rather than the 5 to 6 feet many Colocasia put on, with an upright, clumping habit suited to containers and smaller garden beds. Smaller, narrower arrowhead-shaped leaves than most elephant ears are part of that same compact design.
Full Sun or Part Shade, Fed Heavily
This cultivar tolerates full sun to part shade and holds its colour well either way. It's a heavy feeder that wants deep, consistently moist, moisture-retentive soil; regular feeding through the growing season is what actually drives size and stem colour here, more than light does.
Ships as a Fresh Cutting
This cutting ships with bulb and petiole intact, leaves removed for transit and the bulb wrapped in moist sphagnum moss, rather than the full leafed plant shown in these photos. Expect the red stem colour to show clearly on the first new leaves as it establishes.
Add Colocasia Hawaiian Punch to your collection for a documented, compact Royal Hawaiian selection with a bold red-and-green contrast, grown and shipped from ThaiFusion Botanica in Thailand.

Our photos are representative examples of the plants we offer. You will receive a healthy plant of similar size and quality unless the product description clearly states that the listing is for the exact plant shown.
For selected products, actual photos of the individual plant are provided. These listings will be clearly identified, and you will receive the exact plant pictured. The date the photos were taken will also be stated. If the photos are older, you are welcome to contact us to request updated images before purchasing.
Decorative pots and accessories shown in product photos are for display purposes only and are not included unless otherwise stated.
As our plants are living products, natural variation should be expected. Differences in size, leaf count, coloration, variegation, veining, and growth habit may occur depending on the season, age of the plant, environmental conditions, and normal biological variation. These natural differences are not considered defects and are not grounds for complaints, returns, or refunds.
All sales are final once plants have been shipped. Refunds or replacements for plants that arrive dead on arrival (DOA) are available only when the conditions outlined in our Returns, Refunds & Replacement Policy have been met. Please refer to that policy for full details.

Plant Care
-
Light
Colocasias thrive in bright light and can tolerate several hours of direct morning or late afternoon sun. In cooler climates, full sun encourages vigorous growth and larger leaves, while in hotter regions, light afternoon shade helps prevent leaf scorch. For light colored variegation varieties, they thrive in partial shade and harsh direct sunlight may burn the leaves.
-
Temperature
Ideal temperatures range from 20–32°C (68–90°F). Growth slows significantly below 15°C (59°F), and frost can damage or kill the foliage. In cooler climates, tubers can be lifted and stored over winter.
-
Water
Colocasias are moisture-loving plants that perform best in consistently damp soil. Unlike many aroids, they tolerate wet conditions exceptionally well and can even be grown in shallow water or along pond edges. Never allow the potting mix to dry out completely during the growing season.
-
Humidity
Although Colocasias appreciate high humidity, they are more adaptable than many tropical plants. A humidity level of 50–80% encourages lush, healthy foliage, but established plants generally tolerate average household humidity.
-
Potting Mix
Use a rich, moisture-retentive yet well-aerated potting mix. A blend containing coco coir or peat moss, compost, perlite, and pine bark provides excellent drainage while retaining the moisture Colocasias prefer. Ensure that your coco based products are free from tannin.
-
Fertilizer
Colocasias are heavy feeders during active growth. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks, or use slow-release 16-16-16 Osmocote according to the manufacturer's instructions to support continuous production of large, vibrant leaves.
