Colocasia Crocodile Leather grows enormous leaves with a surface embossed like reptile hide: deep, netted quilting between the veins, in dark green that shades toward slate and near-black on some leaves, held on black-purple petioles. In one of this plant's own photos, a single leaf is nearly the size of the person standing behind it.

A Leaf Big Enough to Stand Behind

Scale is the first thing this plant does differently. The largest photographed leaves are broad and long enough to cover most of a person's torso, and they are held high on tall, dark stems. Even a young plant from a cutting builds toward that size quickly if it has water and feed, so this is a plant to give room to.

Quilted Like Hide, Not Just Veined

The surface is the reason for the name. Between the main veins, the blade is puckered into deep, close-set ribs and wrinkles that catch light like scales, and one of the photographed leaves shows the pattern as pronounced parallel ridges running out from the midrib. It is a texture you notice by touch as much as by sight.

Forest Green to Near-Black, Depending on the Leaf

The colour is not uniform across the photographed leaves. Some run a deep forest green with pale yellow-green veins, others a ribbed sage-grey, and one leaf leans slate to almost black-purple. Expect that spread rather than one fixed shade.

Sold as a New Hybrid, Without a Paper Trail

Crocodile Leather appears in the trade as a recent hybrid of Colocasia esculenta, but no breeder or registered origin for it turns up in the sources available to us, so we are describing only what the photographs show and what the species is known for.

Room, Water, and Feeding for a Plant This Size

Give it a large container, consistent moisture, warmth, and regular feeding through the growing season. Bright, indirect light to full sun suits most Colocasia of this type, with a little protection from the hottest afternoon sun to keep the leaf edges from crisping.

Starting Small, Ending Large

This cutting ships with bulb and petiole intact, leaves removed for transit and the bulb wrapped in moist sphagnum moss, rather than as the full leafed plant shown in these photos. It is one of the more affordable ways to start a giant, texture-first Colocasia, and the leaves grow larger with each new flush.

Add Colocasia Crocodile Leather to your collection for a big, deeply quilted Colocasia with real presence, grown and shipped from ThaiFusion Botanica in Thailand.

Packaging

We ship our tissue culture plants in foam box lined with insulating material to minimize thermal shock.

Live plants are shipped in carton boxes with ventilation holes to prevent excessive moisture from building inside the parcel.

Please refer to our Delivery & Packaging page for more details. We do not recommend importing live plants if your area experiences temperature below -5 degree Celsius.

Disclaimer

Our photos are representative examples of the plants we offer. You will receive a healthy plant of similar size and quality unless the product description clearly states that the listing is for the exact plant shown.

For selected products, actual photos of the individual plant are provided. These listings will be clearly identified, and you will receive the exact plant pictured. The date the photos were taken will also be stated. If the photos are older, you are welcome to contact us to request updated images before purchasing.

Decorative pots and accessories shown in product photos are for display purposes only and are not included unless otherwise stated.

As our plants are living products, natural variation should be expected. Differences in size, leaf count, coloration, variegation, veining, and growth habit may occur depending on the season, age of the plant, environmental conditions, and normal biological variation. These natural differences are not considered defects and are not grounds for complaints, returns, or refunds.

All sales are final once plants have been shipped. Refunds or replacements for plants that arrive dead on arrival (DOA) are available only when the conditions outlined in our Returns, Refunds & Replacement Policy have been met. Please refer to that policy for full details.

  • Light

Colocasias thrive in bright light and can tolerate several hours of direct morning or late afternoon sun. In cooler climates, full sun encourages vigorous growth and larger leaves, while in hotter regions, light afternoon shade helps prevent leaf scorch. For light colored variegation varieties, they thrive in partial shade and harsh direct sunlight may burn the leaves.

  • Temperature

Ideal temperatures range from 20–32°C (68–90°F). Growth slows significantly below 15°C (59°F), and frost can damage or kill the foliage. In cooler climates, tubers can be lifted and stored over winter.

  • Water

Colocasias are moisture-loving plants that perform best in consistently damp soil. Unlike many aroids, they tolerate wet conditions exceptionally well and can even be grown in shallow water or along pond edges. Never allow the potting mix to dry out completely during the growing season.

  • Humidity

Although Colocasias appreciate high humidity, they are more adaptable than many tropical plants. A humidity level of 50–80% encourages lush, healthy foliage, but established plants generally tolerate average household humidity.

  • Potting Mix

Use a rich, moisture-retentive yet well-aerated potting mix. A blend containing coco coir or peat moss, compost, perlite, and pine bark provides excellent drainage while retaining the moisture Colocasias prefer. Ensure that your coco based products are free from tannin.

  • Fertilizer

Colocasias are heavy feeders during active growth. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks, or use slow-release 16-16-16 Osmocote according to the manufacturer's instructions to support continuous production of large, vibrant leaves.
