Alocasia nebula Albo Variegated pushes a species already known for subtle natural variegation into bold, near-solid white sectoring: the tissue culture plantlets here run heavily white with only scattered patches of green, and the adult plant sample shows the same white breaking through a dark, almost black-green leaf in a marbled, camouflage-like pattern.

A Species Already Named for Its Own Soft Variegation

Alocasia nebula gets its name from the Latin for mist or vapour, a reference both to the plant's uncertain wild origin (first observed growing on limestone near Semenggoh, close to Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia, in the mid-1990s) and to the soft, misty variegation the species naturally carries even in its unselected form. That's a real botanical trait, not something invented for this listing.

From Soft Mist to Bold White Sectors

What's on offer here goes well past the species' typical soft mottling. The tissue culture plantlets are heavily white, with green confined to small patches rather than the reverse, and the adult plant sample shows a striking marbled pattern of near-black green and white with a pale blush running through it. It's a considerably bolder expression than the natural species pattern the name references.

No Officially Recognised Cultivars, Whatever the Trade Name Says

Alocasia nebula is sold under various informal names in the trade, including 'Elaine' and 'Imperialis', but none of these are officially recognised cultivars; they all refer to the same species. We're not attaching an unverified cultivar name here, just describing the Albo variegation as it appears on this specific plant.

Bright Light, No Direct Sun

White tissue carries little chlorophyll and burns quickly in direct sun, so bright, indirect light suits this plant far better than a sunny windowsill. Keep humidity high, the substrate chunky and well-draining, and water when the top layer has dried slightly.

A Sterile Plantlet From a Naturally Variegated Species

This plantlet is produced through tissue culture, propagated in a sterile lab environment from parent stock carrying this variegation.
