Alocasia Frydek Albo Variegated combines the almost-fuzzy, deep-green velvet leaf of Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek' with bold cream-white sectoral variegation: some leaves split nearly in half between solid green and pale cream, others carry a marbled mix of the two, with the leaf's heavy silver-white venation showing through both.
A Velvet Leaf Species, Now Split Between Green and Cream
The straight 'Frydek' cultivar is already valued for its velvety leaf surface and heavy silver-white veining, distinct from the glossier leaf most Alocasia carry. This Albo form adds a genuine, unstable white variegation on top of that texture, so no two plants, and often no two leaves on the same plant, show quite the same balance of green to white.
Native to Philippine Understorey, Prized Long Before This Sport
Alocasia micholitziana is native to the Philippines, growing as a rhizomatous understorey herb in humid, shaded forest. 'Frydek' has been an established cultivar name in the trade for its darkest, most velvet-textured form well before variegated sports like this one appeared; the white break is a newer development on an already well-known plant, not an invented backstory. As with other Alocasia, the sap contains calcium oxalate crystals, so keep it away from pets and children.
Bright, Humid, and Out of Direct Sun
Give it bright, indirect light (a spot a few feet back from an east- or west-facing window works well), warmth between 18 and 27°C (65-80°F), and no cold drafts. A well-draining, chunky aroid mix, humidity above 60%, and a slight dry-down between waterings suit it; a covered setup or grow cabinet noticeably improves leaf size and how clearly the variegation shows.
Rooted and Leafed, Not a Plantlet
This listing ships as a bareroot division, roots intact and soil removed for transit, sized to fit a 3-inch pot. That's a step past a tissue culture plantlet: the leaves are already open and coloured, close to what's shown in the first photo, rather than a small unformed start. The mature specimen in the second photo is what it can grow toward, not what ships.
Add Alocasia Frydek Albo Variegated to your collection for a velvet-leaf species with a genuinely unstable white break, grown and shipped from ThaiFusion Botanica in Thailand with a phytosanitary certificate on every international order.
