Alocasia Cucullata Crinkle brings a textural twist to the classic "Chinese Ape" or Buddha's Hand Alocasia: solid green, cupped leaves with a pronounced crinkled, wavy surface that catches light differently from the smooth-leaved standard form.
Why Collectors Seek It Out
Alocasia cucullata is already a long-cultivated favorite for its hooded, upward-cupping leaf shape and vigorous, clumping growth habit, and it's traditionally kept in Chinese households as a good-luck plant. The Crinkle form adds a rippled, textured leaf surface on top of that familiar shape, giving an otherwise common species a distinctive, tactile presence.
Botanical Background
Alocasia cucullata is native to Southeast Asia, growing as a robust rhizomatous herb that forms multi-stemmed clumps over time, unlike many single-stemmed Alocasia species. As with other Alocasia, the sap contains calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets and children.
Growing Conditions
Give it bright, indirect light, warmth between 18-27C (65-80F), a well-draining chunky aroid mix, and humidity above 60% where possible. It's a forgiving, fast-growing species that tolerates a wider range of conditions than many rarer Alocasia.
Live Plant, Bareroot
This listing is a bareroot division, shipped without soil in a size equivalent to a 3" pot. Bareroot shipping reduces weight and transit risk for the plant's roots, and it should be potted up promptly on arrival.
